“Childhood Ghosts (1)” by Siobhán Jennings, 2021.
My visit earlier this year to my family home town of Portland, Victoria on Gunditjmara Country, was the first one since 2009. 11 years and a lifetime ago for me, but these beautiful geological structures have been here for millennia. The landscape in this area is incredibly old and formed largely from previous volcanic activity, but the calcium and limestone where Cape Nelson Lighthouse stands is on borrowed time. The lighthouse still operates, albeit without a lighthouse keeper.
